The opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for a well-organised dedicated individual to join our Community and Economic Development team. The Property Officer is responsible for effectively and efficiently managing Council’s property portfolio and other public land for which Council is responsible as well as to provide property advice and services across the organisation in relation to property matters.

The incumbent will coordinate the negotiation and administration of leases, licenses and agreements. This role will also be responsible for internal and external stakeholder management and the preparation of reports and recommendations to facilitate decisions on property matters.

Essential key criteria to be addressed in applications

  1. Hold a qualification in Law/Business / Property Management or related equivalent, or possess extensive property management experience along with a working knowledge of Property Law in a local government context, including statutory obligations applicable to Council’s property assets.
  2. Hold a current and valid class "C" driver's Licence.
  3. Proven ability to read, interpret and carry out the requirements of Acts, regulations, policies and procedures as they relate to Crown land and freehold land, lease and licence tenure, property management agreements, and land acquisition and disposal.
  4. Possess a demonstrated knowledge and experience in the principles and practices of real estate sales and leasing, including knowledge of lease documents.
  5. Excellent interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to communicate clearly with both internal and external stakeholders along with an ability to brief solicitors in relation to Council’s requirements in the leasing, sale or purchase of property and other related property matters.
  6. Demonstrated understanding of the process for the management of native title claims.

The appointment will be in accordance with the Local Government (State) Award and Council’s policies and conditions of employment.  The salary is commencing at $1,544.30 per week with progression up to $1,704.70 per week dependent upon skills and experience.
