Salary Range: $1,115 - $1,319 per 38 hour week + superannuation, with fortnightly RDO

Warrumbungle Shire Council is seeking a motivated and skilled Plumber to join our Water Services team. This key role ensures the delivery of safe drinking water and the reliable operation of water and sewer infrastructure in Coonabarabran and surrounding areas. You will carry out both preventative and emergency maintenance on water and sewer reticulation systems, contribute to the effective implementation of Council’s Drinking Water Management System, and help maintain compliance with the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines and EPA licences. This role is hands-on and community-focused—your work will have a direct impact on the health and well-being of our residents.

You will be expected to safely operate and maintain a range of plant and equipment, so proven experience with machinery and tickets such as Front End Loader, Backhoe, and Confined Spaces will be highly regarded. The role also includes gravedigging duties and working at heights, so appropriate training and certification in these areas will strengthen your application. Your Certificate III in Plumbing is essential, as is a Class MR Driver’s Licence and a White Card. You will also participate in an on-call roster for after-hours emergencies, and must be able to respond to call-outs in Coonabarabran within 30 minutes.

This position is located in the beautiful town of Coonabarabran, known as the Astronomy Capital of Australia, which is midway between Melbourne and Brisbane and is known for its beautiful landscape and stunning night skies. The town has medical services, excellent schools, a variety of sporting and social clubs and a thriving tourism Industry. With the nearby Warrumbungle National Park, which is also Australia’s first Dark Sky Park, there is plenty to do and explore whether you’re looking for adventure or relaxation. 

Selection criteria include:

  • Sound understanding of work health and safety (WHS) in a trades construction environment
  • Certificate III in Plumbing
  • Commitment to Council’s Drinking Water Management System
  • Participate in rotating on-call roster for emergency call-outs
  • Ability to be on-site in Coonabarabran within 30 minutes for any emergency call-out and within 30 minutes plus travel time to calls at other centres in the group
  • OHS Construction Induction Certificate (“white card”)
  • Class MR Driver’s Licence
  • Department of Fair Trading Plumber’s and Drainer's Licence (Cert IV)
  • Department of Fair Trading Gasfitter’s Licence
  • Traffic Control tickets
  • Backflow Prevention Certification
  • Relevant machinery tickets (e.g. Front End Loader, Backhoe).

It's a bonus if you have tickets/certificates for safe gravedigging, chemical handling, confined spaces and working at heights. Knowledge and understanding of the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines will be highly beneificial.
