Plant Operator Level 2
Join Tweed Shire Council as a versatile Plant Operator, where you'll operate a range of heavy machinery including excavators, loaders, trailers, crane trucks and more! This hands-on role requires strong knowledge of the local road network, the ability to work independently and a commitment to safety, teamwork and operational flexibility across various civil works.
About the role:
- Operate a wide range of plant and transport equipment including trucks, trailers (over 10T) excavators, graders, loaders, crane trucks low loaders and more.
- Perform daily maintenance and safety checks on machinery to ensure safe and efficient operation.
- Navigate independently across the Tweed Shire using sound local road knowledge and work unsupervised when required.
- Communicate effectively with Supervisors and work collaboratively with other teams and work gangs.
- Carry out additional duties as needed, including non-driving tasks when plant is idle or under repair.

We are seeking:
- Strong literacy and numeracy skills to read job instructions, manuals and complete accurate work records.
- Proven competency in operating civil plant and machinery including excavators, backhoes, graders, loaders and transport equipment such as dog trailers and low loaders.
- Sound understanding of grades, levels, cross falls, bitumen sealing techniques, load shifting regulations and heavy vehicle transport requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to perform routine maintenance, cleaning and safety checks on plant equipment.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Current White Card and relevant licences/tickets essential, including a Heavy Vehicle licence (or higher) and any certifications required to operate civil plant, trailers and associated equipment.

This position is based in Murwillumbah and can be directed to work from any Council work site.
