The Role

Internally titled as the 'Accounts Payable and Payroll Coordinator' and reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, this position is based in Windsor. This position will supervise and manage the payroll function for Hawkesbury City Council while also overseeing Accounts Payable. The position will require an established leader to drive and deliver an efficient payroll and accounts payable service whilst ensuring obligations for statutory requirements and Council policies are upheld. The position is a combination of leading the day-to-day operations whilst also identifying and managing strategic improvements to the payroll function. Four staff report to the Accounts Payable and Payroll Coordinator.

About You

You will have demonstrated experience in running a payroll function which will include having led a payroll team to efficiently and accurately execute payroll on a weekly basis.

You will have a deep understanding of the detail and complexity that relevant Awards and/or EBAs have on a payroll function and you will demonstrate experience interpreting and translating Awards for payroll purposes.

In addition to managing the day-to-day operation of the function, you will have a continuous improvement mindset and will have experience in evolving and streamlining processes and procedures in line with legislation and the strategic direction of the Finance Branch.

Essential Criteria

  • Tertiary qualifications in Finance and/or equivalent, relevant industry experience
  • 5+ years demonstrated experience running the end-to-end weekly pay run for 500+ team members
  • Demonstrated experience leading, supervising, mentoring, and training staff
  • Solid working knowledge of superannuation and Australian Taxation legislation
  • A sound knowledge and demonstrated experience in the implementation and interpretation of award-based payroll functions
  • Experience in an accounts payable position
  • Demonstrated ability to research, analyse and effectively present information, ideas and data
  • High level computer literacy with a demonstrated ability to use digital payroll systems and Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, PowerPoint
