About the role

We are currently seeking an experienced and proactive Payroll Coordinator to join our People & Culture team.
This is a key role responsible for managing end-to-end payroll services and providing expert advice on payroll and entitlements, while contributing to our commitment to employee wellbeing and operational excellence.
Reporting to the Manager People & Culture, duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Lead the delivery of Council’s weekly payroll for approximately 500 staff
- Supervise and support payroll staff in day-to-day operations
- Ensure compliance with employment legislation, awards and internal policies
- Provide expert advice on payroll, tax, superannuation, and entitlements
- Oversee payroll reporting, data integrity, and reconciliation processes
- Identify and implement process improvements and system enhancements
- Support internal and external audits and reporting obligations
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in human resources, business or finance
- Proven experience leading a payroll function in a complex organisation
- Strong working knowledge of relevant legislation (e.g. Fair Work Act, Industrial Relations Act and relevant industrial instruments) as they pertain to employee entitlements
- Demonstrated experience with HR/payroll systems
- High level of accuracy, discretion, and attention to detail
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and team leadership skills
- Ability to drive continuous improvement and foster a positive team culture
