The role 

We currently have a vacancy for a Parking Officer to help manage parking within our Local Government Area. This role is essential in maintaining safety, order, and accessibility in some of our most popular public spaces. Parking Officers are responsible for enforcing parking regulations, encouraging legal and responsible parking behaviour, and supporting the fair turnover of parking spaces across the community. Duties will also include conducting beach patrols to ensure compliance with vehicle permit regulations and to monitor for illegal camping activities. 

This position also involves providing friendly and informative customer service, educating the public on parking regulations, and maintaining accurate records. You’ll work closely with community members and stakeholders to support positive parking outcomes.

To succeed in this role, you’ll need strong communication skills, the ability to stay calm in difficult situations, and a willingness to work outdoors in all conditions. Knowledge of parking laws is an advantage, but training will be provided.

What will you bring? 

  • Excellent customer service skills with the ability to de-escalate conflict in a tactful, empathetic and courteous manner
  • Applied experience in a regulatory/enforcement role (desirable)
  • Ability to interpret and apply the relevant parts of applicable legislation, including the Local Government Act 1993, Road Rules 2014, Road Transport (General) Regulation 2021
  • Proven ability to work effectively, autonomously and accept responsibility within a team environment
  • Class C Drivers licence

Salary: Commencing salary package circa $65,800 p.a. plus superannuation.

*A "to and from" use vehicle is available and will be discussed with the successful candidate. 

Location: This position will be based at our Administration Centre in Yalawanyi Ganya at 2 Biripi Way, Taree. You may also be required to be based from other Council sites across the MidCoast Council region.

Tenure: Permanent, Full Time.
