About the Position

 

As a local resident with your own accommodation, we invite you to apply for this part-time position (40 hours per fortnight) which supports the delivery of the Shire’s Local History Strategy through the preservation, cataloguing, and promotion of the Shire’s rich history.

 

The role will see you travel regularly to towns across the Shire to liaise with community groups, stakeholders, and residents, while also assisting in maintaining cemetery records, building partnerships, and providing expert support to staff and customers in the use of local history resources. Your enthusiasm for history, customer service, and community engagement will be key to your success in this position.

 

This position is responsible for:

  • Developing and sustaining partnerships that support local history research, collection development, and increased community participation.
  • Recording, cataloguing, and maintaining local history records within Shire systems.
  • Digitising and preserving records by editing and enhancing photographs to improve clarity, using transcription software and operating document scanners.
  • Providing guidance, assistance and training for internal and external stakeholders related to Local History resources.
  • Ensuring compliance with WHS, legislation, and Shire policies.
  • Occasional travel to other Shire towns is required.

 

About You

 

To succeed in this role, you will bring:

  • A current Drivers’ Licence (Minimum C Class).
  • Current National Police Clearance (within 6 months of commencement).
  • Working with Children Check
  • Relevant experience (or demonstrated passion) in local history, history preservation, or community engagement.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of software (or equivalent)
