‘Let’s Grow’ Local Government Facilitator
Contract
Full-Time Fixed-Term Contract (24 months)
Located: WALGA HQ West Leederville / on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk Noongar people.
Help Shape a Greener Future for Western Australia
As WALGA's Let's Grow Local Government Facilitator, you'll play a key role in delivering the Local Government component of the State Government's Let's Grow initiative and supporting WALGA's Urban Forest Program.
This two-year opportunity sits at the forefront of Western Australia's urban greening efforts. Funded through the State Government's Let's Grow initiative; the role will support Local Governments across the Whadjuk (Perth) and Bindjareb (Peel) regions to implement actions under Western Australia's first Urban Greening Strategy and the associated Let's Grow Action Plan.
Through facilitation, education, collaboration and practical support, you'll help Local Governments build capability, strengthen urban forest planning and management, and deliver urban greening outcomes that contribute to healthier, cooler and more liveable communities. If you've ever wanted to be part of a project that delivers visible, lasting and impactful environmental outcomes, this is your chance!
What will you be doing?
As the link between Local Government, WALGA and key State Government agencies, you will support councils to implement the Let's Grow Action Plan through collaboration, capacity building, knowledge sharing and practical urban forestry guidance.
Sitting within WALGA's Policy Planning and Building Team, one day you might:
- Work with a Local Government to progress an urban forest strategy
- Explore practical approaches to increasing tree canopy and vegetation outcomes.
The next, you could be:
- Facilitating the Urban Forest Working Group, developing practical guidance and resources
- Coordinating and delivering sector events like WALGA's biennial Urban Forest Conference
- Working alongside agencies such as the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage (DPLH) and the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER) to support implementation of the Let's Grow initiative.
This is a hands-on role that combines project coordination, stakeholder engagement, facilitation, technical advice and sector support, giving you the opportunity to influence and implement urban greening outcomes.
Let's talk about you
You will bring a strong understanding of urban forest planning, management and the Western Australian planning environment, along with the ability to build productive relationships across a diverse range of stakeholders.
You're someone who enjoys bringing people together, translating complex information into practical outcomes and helping others turn ideas into action. You are comfortable working independently, facilitating conversations, sharing knowledge and supporting stakeholders to achieve shared outcomes.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Experience in stakeholder engagement, facilitation, knowledge sharing and project coordination with the ability to build and maintain positive working relationships.
- Demonstrated capability to interpret and apply policy, legislation, research and technical information.
- High-level written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing reports, presentations, correspondence and guidance materials.
- A current Class C driver's licence
