About the role

We have a great opportunity available for an experienced Landscape Design and Project Officer to join the Open Space and Trees department at Woollahra Council on a permanent full-time basis.

Woollahra Council maintains some of Sydney’s most beautiful and highly used Harbour foreshores, parks and tree lined streets.

Reporting to the Team Leader, Open Space and Recreation Planning, using your creative and extensive landscape design skills, you will design and implement a diverse range of attractive public open space projects and facilities that meet the needs of the community and maximise community well-being. Your projects will range in scale and complexity from playgrounds to Sydney Harbour foreshore parks to various types of sporting facilities and grant applications.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will be degree qualified in Landscape Architecture. You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to deliver a high level of service and independently carry out strategic projects.

Essential Criteria

  • Degree qualifications in Landscape Architecture and eligibility to obtain registration with the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects, or equivalent
  • Demonstrated experience in Landscape Architecture and ability to prepare design documentation in the form of drawings and specifications for landscape construction, cost estimates and master plans
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in site analysis, landscape design risk assessment, and plant selection with proven ability to achieve high quality design outcomes for the community
  • Demonstrated community consultation skills and experience
  • Advanced computing skills, including experience in the use of Microsoft Office suite (or equivalent) and Adobe suite
  • Knowledge and experience in the use of CAD software and graphic presentation software, such as Vectorworks and Indesign, for the production of landscape documentation and media related exhibits
  • Clear and concise written, verbal communication and presentation skills, including the ability to present at forums / workshops for Councillors, Council staff and the general public
  • Proven performance and ability to achieve objectives and meet project timeline targets
  • Willingness to undertake a wide range of non-design duties and projects to meet the operational needs of the Open Space and Recreation Team
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Current Class C Driver’s Licence.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience in Local Government or similar environment
  • Experience and knowledge relating to the maintenance and management of public open space, including the preparation of public land plans of management 
  • Demonstrated project management skills
  • Demonstrated customer service skills and experience, including conflict resolution skills.
  • Experience in writing successful grant applications
