Based In Corowa but will work in Howlong, Mulwala, and across the Federation Council area

The Opportunity
Are you looking for a dynamic outdoor role where you can serve the community while managing essential waste infrastructure? Federation Council is seeking a motivated Landfill Officer to join our Engineering Services department.
As a Landfill Officer, you will be the face of our waste management facilities across Corowa, Howlong, and Mulwala, ensuring they operate smoothly, safely, and in compliance with all regulatory requirements. Your primary focus will be to deliver high standards of customer service, monitoring waste disposal, and maintaining facility operations.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, no two days are the same. Your daily tasks will include:
- Opening and closing facilities, collecting tipping fees, and recording waste quantities in Council systems.
- Inspecting incoming waste to prevent hazardous materials (like asbestos) from entering and ensuring all waste is disposed of in the correct locations.
- Competently operating Council plant to manage construction, demolition, and general waste cells, as well as compacting scrap metal and green waste.
- Undertaking quarterly groundwater monitoring, conducting perimeter reviews for feral pigs, and performing general clean-ups to keep sites safe and tidy.
- Managing invoicing records, submitting finance requests, and ensuring data capture procedures are followed.
Essential key criteria to be addressed in applications
- A current and valid Heavy Rigid (HR) driver's licence and a General Construction Induction Certificate (White Card).
- Possession of (or the ability to obtain within 3 months) a First Aid Certificate, Remove Non-Friable Asbestos Certificate, AQF3 Chemical Accreditation, and a drumMUSTER Inspector Ticket.
- Proven experience in cash handling, receipting, and reconciliation.
- Strong customer service and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to communicate courteously with the general public.
- A solid understanding of WHS practices and, ideally, experience in the waste industry.
Desirable Extras:
- Heavy Combination (HC) Licence.
- Competency certificates for Skidsteer, loaders, hook lifts, forklifts, or excavators.

The appointment will be in accordance with the Local Government (State) Award and Council’s policies and conditions of employment. The salary is commencing at $31.89 per hour with progression up to $35.20 per hour dependent upon skills and experience.
