The opportunity

Federation Council are offering an exciting opportunity for you to make a real meaningful difference in your community and to be part of our supportive and friendly team! Our Gardener/Horticulturist will work in a team environment providing labour maintaining all recreation and open spaces across the Federation Council.

In this role you will:

  • Maintain all Council presentation areas in accordance with the determined service levels. This will include but not limited to sporting fields, parks and gardens, playgrounds, wetlands, arboriculture, cemeteries, streetscapes, landscaping and slashing areas.
  • Undertake a wide range of horticultural activities and construction works.
  • Operate and maintain gardening plant and equipment.
  • Accurately complete documentation associated with plant and equipment operation.

Essential key criteria to be addressed in applications:

  1. Hold a minimum Horticulture Certificate III or currently completing certificate.
  2. Hold an AQ3 level chemical usage qualification such as ChemCert and a Construction Induction Certificate (White Card).
  3. Hold a current and valid MR Licence or the ability to achieve in first 3 months of employment.
  4. Demonstrated knowledge of horticulture practices with experience in the field.
  5. Demonstrated knowledge of WHS practices and ability to participate in a safe working environment.
  6. Proved ability to show initiative in solving problems, improving methods and productivity along with the ability to seek guidance and advice where required.

The appointment will be in accordance with the Local Government (State) Award and Council’s policies and conditions of employment.  Wages are dependent upon qualifications, skills and experience.  Unqualified (studying Certificate III or above) wages commence at $1,120.20 per week plus Award allowances, and qualified (Certificate III Horticulture or above) wages commence at $1,176.90 per week plus Award allowances.
