About the Role
This permanent, full time position will work within the Floodplain Management Unit of Council to provide technical expertise in floodplain engineering, water sensitive urban design (WSUD) and development assessment. Reporting Directly to the Lead - Floodplain Management, the primary purpose of this role is to:
- Provide technical advice and assessment of flood related information submitted with development applications including pre-lodgement advice.
- Provide technical advice and assessment of water sensitive urban design (WSUD) related information submitted with development applications and subdivision works certificates.
- Respond to community enquiries regarding flooding and stormwater quality matters.

The advertised salary is based on the grade of the position, comprising of 4 steps within the range shown. The starting salary is at Step 1 within the grade. Progression through the salary steps shall be based upon the achievement of performance objectives relating to the position.
This is a grade range position, therefore in accordance with qualifications, experience and demonstrated skills, the prospective employee will be assessed as either Grade 10, 11 or 12.
Grade 10 - $88,494 - $101,649 p.a. plus 11.5% Super
Grade 11 - $96,868 - $110,017 p.a. plus 11.5% Super
Grade 12 - $102,842 - $117,191 p.a. plus 11.5% Super
About You
The starting grade for this position shall be determined based on the applicant's experience as assessed against the Grade 10, Grade 11 and Grade 12 competencies listed below.
Progression from Grade 10 to Grade 12 is subject to competencies being met and increased responsibilities and complexity of tasks being undertaken or managed.
To be successful in this position, you will possess:
- Civil or Environmental Engineering degree or equivalent.
- Class C Driver's License.
- Proof of Australian residency or citizenship, or authority to work in Australia (visa).
Grade 10
- Completed tertiary qualifications in civil engineering, environmental engineering, flood risk management, or relevant discipline.
- Demonstrated experience (approx. 0-3 years) within a floodplain management, civil engineering or project management environment, with working knowledge of flood modelling and investigations, and WSUD.
Grade 11
- Completed tertiary qualifications in civil engineering, environmental engineering, flood risk management, or relevant discipline.
- Demonstrated experience (approx. 3-5 years) within a floodplain management, civil engineering or project management environment, with working knowledge of flood modelling and investigations, WSUD and civil infrastructure design.
Grade 12
- Completed tertiary qualifications in civil engineering, environmental engineering, flood risk management, or relevant discipline.
- Demonstrated experience (5 years and above) within; floodplain management or civil engineering; a project management environment; and working knowledge of flood modelling and investigations, WSUD, flood risk management and civil infrastructure design and assessment.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the engineering assessment of development applications.
