THE JOB

We are looking for a systematic, degree qualified finance professional with strong attention to detail and accuracy to support Council’s financial accounting function through the completion of accounting processes and tasks to meet Council’s operational and statutory financial requirements.

As a member of the financial accounting team, you will contribute to the preparation of annual financial statements, financial reporting, reconciliations, returns, and journals to support the integrity of the general ledger and chart of accounts as well as being responsible for end-to-end processing of bank reconciliation, grants register, cashflow reporting, BAS, FBT, audits and month end processes.

CONDITIONS

  • Permanent, full-time position working 70 hours / fortnight.
  • Salary of $3359.40 - $3781.00 per fortnight based on qualifications skills and experience.
  • 12% superannuation.

Essential Criteria

  1. Degree in accounting or equivalent knowledge and skills gained through experience.
  2. Demonstrated ability to effectively and accurately deliver the position requirements in a similar sized organisation including experience contributing to the preparation of entity financial statements
  3. Understanding of core accounting principles, procedures, relevant legislation and compliance requirements.
  4. High level of attention to detail and accuracy and ability to reconcile and analyse financial transactions, identify discrepancies and trace them to the source and resolve.
  5. Effective verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills that enable effective and respectful working relationships, collaboration and teamwork
  6. Demonstrated competency in the use of financial accounting systems and Microsoft Excel.
  7. The ability to prioritise workloads, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines
  8. Demonstrated ability to provide a high standard of customer service to internal and external customers.
  9. Current Class C drivers’ licence.

 

Desirable Criteria

  1. Certified Practicing Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Accountant (CA) qualification, or substantial progress toward professional membership.
  2. Previous experience in local government accounting
  3. Experience using Technology One system
