Position Overview

Join Sutherland Shire Council in this part time temporary opportunity as Environmental Scientist - Projects, and play an integral part of our Environmental Science & Policy Unit. Within this role you will focus on developing and implementing policies, programs, and strategies that safeguard the beautiful natural landscape we have within the Sutherland Shire. You will provide scientific expertise, manage consultants, and support various environmental projects.

This role requires effective communication with internal and external stakeholders and the ability to analyse and report on complex environmental issues. You will also assist in the day-to-day operations of the unit and mentor junior staff.

Your Role and Responsibilities

As an Environmental Scientist - Projects, you will be instrumental in researching, developing, and implementing policies and strategies that safeguard the Shire’s environment. You will provide expert scientific advice and support to our council staff while actively engaging with the community on sustainability issues. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting in-depth research and analysis to inform environmental management strategies.
  • Supervising consultants and managing projects to ensure timely and satisfactory outcomes.
  • Preparing comprehensive reports and presentations for council consideration.
  • Identifying emerging trends in environmental sustainability and contributing to innovative solutions.

Who We’re Looking For

We seek a passionate and experienced Environmental Scientist who thrives in a collaborative environment. The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in environmental management or a related area.
  • Strong research and analytical skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, to engage effectively with stakeholders.
  • A Working With Children Check will be required for this position.
  • Class C Drivers Licence required.

  • Package: $104,345 - $110,604 gross p.a. (full time equivalent) plus 11.5% superannuation.
