About the role

Our Sustainability Team is seeking a proactive and reliable team player to join our dynamic group. In this role, you will help deliver environmental projects and programs that make a tangible difference. If you have a passion for urban land protection, community engagement, collaboration, and a solid understanding of biosecurity processes, this diverse role is for you.

As the successful candidate, you will work closely with various internal teams, residents, local community groups, and businesses to support the delivery of Council’s environmental programs. Daily tasks include implementing projects outlined in Council’s Operational Plan, Environmental Strategy, Biodiversity Action Plan and Local Priority Weed Management Plan.

Key Priorities of the Role:

  • Develop and implement a biosecurity process and management plan to control prohibited and restricted invasive plant and animal species.
  • Maximize the retention and gain of native vegetation, enhance biodiversity, and address natural resource management issues at both strategic and operational levels.
  • Develop, manage, and evaluate actions within Council’s Biodiversity-Action Plan, including undertaking projects, community programs, species mapping, surveys, and data analysis, whilst working closely with the Urban Ecology team.
  • Create and implement environmental policies, strategies, and plans, collaborating with key departments to integrate resilience and environmental sustainability principles into future council projects.

Are You the Ideal Candidate?

About the Person

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Tertiary degree or equivalent in environmental management, conservation and land management, or related discipline, and/or proven experience (greater than 5 years).
  • Experience in invasive species management and natural resource management, including a working knowledge of relevant legislation.
  • Sound stakeholder management and interpersonal skills for building and maintaining relationships with key internal and external stakeholders
  • Project Management experience, including a demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects to timeframe and budget
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in implementing monitoring programs, operational management plans, and procedures to manage invasive biosecurity matters.
  • Knowledge of current urban ecology management challenges and opportunities, such as biodiversity, threatened species management, and climate resilience.

This position will involve community meetings and workshops outside normal business hours and will require some evening and weekend work.

We are offering a total remuneration from $95,667 to $110,018 per annum plus superannuation.
