This position is classified as a PACS Band 6 ($83,004 - $88,996 p.a, pro rata) under the City of Kwinana’s structured remuneration system.

About The Position
The City of Kwinana has an amazing opportunity for an Environmental Health Assistant to join our Environment and Health Services team.

We are seeking an enthusiastic individual who is:

  • currently enrolled in a recognised accredited tertiary qualification in Environmental Health with satisfactory completion of microbiology, food safety and food science units, or
  • qualified in food science (Cert IV or higher) and completed minimum 40 hours of food microbiology, or
  • a graduated Environmental Health Officer.

It is requested that applicants specify their preference for part-time or full-time in their application. Applications will be assessed on their merit, including consideration of the applicant’s relevant skills and experience.

About The Role
This position will report to the Senior Environmental Health Officer, and work alongside a superstar team. The primary focus of this position is to assist with food safety assessments and complaints investigations, process applications, implement the sampling program and the education program including planning and delivery of community outreach activities. 

Eligibility
To be considered for this position, applicants must:

  1. Have evidence of one of the following:
  • Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Health or qualifications and/or experience approved and gazetted by the Chief Health Officer under the Public Health Act 2016; or
  • Undertaking study in a tertiary qualification in Environmental Health AND satisfactory completion of microbiology, food safety and food science units; or
  • Certificate IV of Food Science (or higher) with a minimum of 40 hours of food microbiology;

     and

  • Have full working rights or a current Visa that allows this type of activity; and
  • Hold a current WA Driver's Licence; and 
  • Possess sound knowledge and understand of the Food Act 2008, risk management principles and practices.
  • Demonstrate interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to engage internal and external stakeholders effectively and provide a high level of customer service, sound computer literacy skills, and effective time management and organisational skills.
