About the Role

Our Environment & Health team is offering an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated individual with strong leadership skills and a proactive mindset. We’re seeking someone who can confidently guide a team in addressing complex planning matters related to the environmental impacts of proposed developments. While a subject matter expertise isn’t required, a solid understanding of planning requirements and how potential development impacts on vegetation can be best managed in a balanced way is essential. In this role, you’ll also lead the delivery of environmental education initiatives for the community, co-ordinate sustainability projects in areas such as climate risk management, energy efficiency, and contribute to shaping environmental goals that align with Council’s strategic directions and policies.

What you will be doing:

  • Management and coordination of staff and projects/programs within the Environment Team to achieve performance targets and business plan initiatives as well as mentoring and coaching team members
  • Coordinate the assessment of development applications and planning proposals regarding biodiversity, arboriculture and landscaping.
  • Coordinate the investigation and offer advice as well as a resolution of customer enquires/requests.
  • Coordinate the preparation of statement of evidence, affidavits, basic facts and contentions and support team members in Land & Environment Court matters.
  • Coordinate the delivery of specialist advice and assessment on relevant technical reports & documents to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Carry out duties under the EP&A Act, Biodiversity Conservation Act, Local Government Act & other relevant legislation and policies

What are we seeking in our new team member:

  • Degree in Environmental Management/Environmental Science, Nature Resource Management or related field
  • Drivers License (Class C) – NSW
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and mentor staff
  • Excellent problem solving skills and demonstrated ability to balance complex and competing objectives
  • Strong written and verbal communication and documentation skills
  • Practical skills in project/program management, environment and sustainability best practice, strategic analysis, interpretation and research.
  • Knowledge of Local Government Act, Environmental Planning and Assessment Act and Biodiversity Conservation Act

Position Details:

Permanent full-time role, salary starting from $120K + Superannuation + Car Allowance of $14,181 or Council Leaseback Vehicle
