Economic Development Specialist

The City Life directorate delivers personalised and public services to enhance community life, including family, aged, leisure and cultural services.

This role will liaise with local business communities to promote economic development in the Bayside LGA. The position is responsible for implementing economic development strategies to build capacity and achieve economic sustainability.

About the role

In this role, you will support the delivery of Bayside’s Economic Development Strategy by using research, insights and stakeholder engagement to drive best-practice initiatives. You will represent Council within the broader Sydney business environment and work closely with local businesses and partners to promote economic growth across the Bayside LGA.

You will build strong relationships, support local businesses, and contribute to initiatives that strengthen the local economy and position Bayside as a competitive and vibrant place to do business.

You can also expect to:

  • Support the future viability of the Southern Enterprise Corridor as Sydney’s’ pre-eminent economic corridor in the face of the future competition from the new Aerotropolis (airport/port/transport, logistics and freight hub).
  • Represent Bayside at relevant networks and forums and create strong alliances and partnerships across other councils, business groups, Chambers of Commerce, industry stakeholders and state and federal government bodies.
  • Build strong relationships with businesses and networks to support growth, raise business visibility, and strengthen the local economy.
  • Lead the collection and analysis of economic data to identify trends, strengths, and opportunities for local business growth.
  • Promote economic programs and initiatives to raise awareness and strengthen connections with local businesses and the community.
  • Work with stakeholders and Council teams to support town centre improvement initiatives.

 About you

We are looking for someone who:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in economic development, commerce, business or public administration (or equivalent experience)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare reports, advice and correspondence for a range of audiences
  • A current Class C Driver’s Licence

Salary: $102,266 - $114,143 plus super
