East Arnhem Regional Council (EARC) is seeking Active Communities Relief Coordinator. The Active Communities Relief Coordinator will provide interim coordination of Active Communities' programs, ensuring continuity of service delivery and alignment with community priorities and the strategic direction of East Arnhem Regional Council.
 
What you'll do:

  • Facilitate the short-term delivery of structured and varied programs, to support
    participants' connection to body, mind, kinship and culture.
  • Facilitate the relief delivery of meaningful, supervised after-school hours and or school
    holiday activities, five days a week, including a minimum of three nights a week.
  • Work with Active Communities Manager to support delivery of key events, including
    regional sports competitions, entertainment, on-country opportunities, community gala
    days and external provider activities.
  • Work with Active Communities Manager to celebrate and acknowledge key dates
    including Youth Week, and culturally important dates including NAIDOC week.
  • Support a team of Indigenous identified Active Communities Workers to facilitate
    service delivery, utilising a strengths-based approach.
  • Assist with timesheet preparation and tracking staff attendance.
  • Complete daily reporting and administration requirements including key data
    collection.
  • In applicable communities, proactively engage with and involve the library staff to
    compliment library service delivery in relevant East Arnhem communities.
  • Ensure all Active Communities facilities are effectively cleaned and organised daily
    and report damage and faults immediately.
  • Actively participate in all offered training and development opportunities.
  • Comply with all Workplace Health and Safety Policies and Procedures.
  • Other duties as reasonably directed by the Active Communities Manger.

 
What we're looking for:
 
Essential Criteria 

  • Ability to work flexible hours on short-term engagements.
  • Demonstrated prior experience in youth work, community development, sport and
    recreation, events management, working with First Nations communities, or other
    related field.
  • Demonstrated administrative and organisational skills including records management.
  • Strong organisational skills, with prior experience leading a complex service space with
    competing internal and external demands.
  • First Aid and CPR qualification, or the willingness to obtain.
  • Food safety qualification, or the willingness to obtain.
  • Current Ochre Card, or the willingness to obtain.
  • Have a knowledge of and commitment to apply a strength based and community
    development approach, including working within an Indigenous cultural framework.
  • Adaptable and resilient, with the ability to live, work and thrive in complex cross-cultural
    environments.
  • Advanced oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, including effective
    stakeholder engagement, active listening and experience in navigating conflict and
    challenging situations
  •  Strong cross-cultural awareness, respect, and understanding of First Nations people
    and their history.
  • Proven effective time management with the ability to work autonomously.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook) and
    an ability to learn new software.
  • Must hold a current C Class Drivers Licence.

Desirable Criteria 

  • Other relevant or related qualifications.
  • Previous experience living and/or working in remote Australian First Nations'
    communities.
  • Demonstrated high level of cross-cultural awareness to ensure effective participation
    in a multi-cultural workplace.
  • Awareness of issues affecting First Nations People in Australia
