About the position:
Geraldton is renowned for its spectacular outdoor living, and with 2204 swimming pools across the City, spending time in the water is a favourite pastime for many local families. In this field‑based, customer‑focused role, you’ll play a vital part in keeping families safe around water by ensuring pool barriers meet required safety standards.
As a Development Compliance Officer - Pool Compliance, you will be out in the community every day, working directly with homeowners and pool owners. Your role combines education, safety, problem‑solving, and practical assessment skills to help ensure every pool barrier in the City meets legislative requirements.
Key accountabilities:
- Manage a full schedule of pool barrier inspections, follow‑up communications, re‑inspections, and—when required—formal compliance actions. Good Time Management and Communication Skills are essential.
- Educate and support property owners by providing clear, consistent guidance on their obligations under the Building Code, Regulations, and Australian Standards.
- Maintain accurate, real‑time records using mobile devices and digital systems to ensure all assessments and actions are properly documented.

Position requirements:
We’re seeking someone who brings a balance of professionalism, confidence, and practical know‑how. You will thrive in this role if you have:
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including polite persistence, resilience, and the ability to have open conversations when needed.
- Practical or technical experience, ideally from the building industry, trades, or similar hands‑on fields as these skills would assist in this role.
- Strong digital capability, including confident use of an iPad, PC, and associated apps for field reporting and record‑keeping.
All City positions require completion of a pre‑employment medical, including alcohol and other substances testing.

Remuneration and benefits:
A salary ranging from $82,422 - $86,882 per annum will be offered dependent on knowledge, skills, experience and qualifications.
This is a very busy position needing to be filled to a full time capacity. Hours of work can be negotiated between 6.30am and 6.30pm, however some flexibility will be required to ensure we are offering inspections at the most convenient times to property owners.
