The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity exists for a highly motivated and forward-thinking professional to join a progressive NSW local council as a Coordinator Strategic Planning. In this leadership role, you will drive long-term planning initiatives that shape sustainable, vibrant, and resilient communities.
About the Role
The Strategic Planning Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and leading Council’s strategic planning functions, including the development and implementation of planning strategies, policies and projects that support sustainable growth and liveability across the Yass Valley.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and supporting Council’s strategic planning team
- Developing, implementing and monitoring strategic planning and economic development projects
- Preparing and reviewing planning proposals and planning instruments
- Administering and reviewing Council’s Contributions Plans
- Providing expert strategic planning advice across Council and to the community
- Liaising with stakeholders to ensure a collaborative and balanced approach to planning outcomes
- Monitoring emerging planning and economic development issues and opportunities relevant to the region
- Ensuring compliance with relevant NSW planning legislation and policy frameworks.

Salary from $91,344 - $98,651 per year depending on skills, experience and qualifications (+ 12% super) - Grade 18 in accordance with Council's Salary System and the Local Government State Award.
What We’re Looking For
- Relevant qualifications in Urban Planning, Commerce, Economics, Business Administration, Urban Planning or a related discipline or equivalent experience.
- A minimum of 5 years demonstrated experience in Strategic Planning.
- Highly developed written and verbal communication skills.
- A thorough working knowledge of the NSW Environmental Planning and Assessment legislation.
- Proven experience in developing strategic plans and delivering high quality outcomes.
- Experience in undertaking and analysing economic, demographic and market research.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise a team, establish work priorities and manage competing deadlines.
- A current class ‘C’ driver’s licence.
