Bayside Council is excited to announce a new Cadet Communications and Media position.
This is a unique opportunity for a creative and driven individual to gain hands-on experience while studying communications, journalism, media, or a related field.
As a Cadet, you'll support our Communications & Media team in delivering timely, engaging content that informs, inspires, and connects our diverse community.
Key responsibilities

In this role, you will:
- Assist in the development and delivery of digital content for Council’s communication channels, including social media, website, and newsletters.
- Support the execution of communication campaigns and projects under the guidance of senior team members.
- Contribute to the creation of written, visual, and multimedia content that aligns with Council’s brand and communication objectives.
- Participate in the planning and coordination of community engagement activities and
- Monitor digital platforms and assist in data analytics and
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to gather information and stories that highlight Council
- Provide administrative support to the Communications team including maintaining communication records, processing invoices relates to communication activities, organising data and digital assets and assisting with reporting and evaluation processes.
- Maintain accurate records of communication activities and contribute to documentation and compliance requirements.
About you
We’re looking for someone who is:
- Currently undertaking a relevant undergraduate degree (e.g. Communications, Media, Journalism, PR, Digital Media) in 2025 and is in their penultimate or final year of study.
- A great communicator with strong writing and editing skills.
- Curious, creative, and digitally savvy – especially on social platforms.
- Organised and able to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Passionate about serving and engaging with the local community.
