Join us at Wingecarribee Shire Council as a Building Surveyor, where you'll apply your technical expertise and professional judgement to deliver evidence-based regulatory outcomes that support safe, compliant and high-quality development across one of NSW's most unique and vibrant regions.

 

What you'll do

As our Building Surveyor, you'll play a key role in supporting safe, compliant, and sustainable development across the Shire. Reporting to the Coordinator Health and Building, you'll deliver professional building certification, inspection, and advisory services while working closely with residents, builders, developers, and internal stakeholders.

You'll assess and determine applications for Construction Certificates, Complying Development Certificates, Occupation Certificates, Building Information Certificates and Section 68 approvals, undertake inspections when appointed as the Principal Certifier, and exercise other functions delegated by Council. You'll provide expert advice on building, plumbing and drainage matters, contribute to development assessment referrals and compliance activities, and support the delivery of consistent, timely and legislatively compliant regulatory services in accordance with relevant legislation and Council policies.

What You'll Need to Succeed (Essential Criteria)

  1. Tertiary qualifications in Building Surveying with NSW Building Commission of ‘Building Surveyor – Restricted (Class 1 and 10 buildings)’ under the Building and Development Certifiers Act 2018 (formerly A3).
  2. Experience working in building certification or building surveying in either a Local Government or private practice setting.
  3. Proven interpersonal skills including the ability to negotiate with influence in order to achieve desired development outcomes. Proven experience in communication to a wide range of audiences and the ability to draft factual technical reports with attention to detail.
  4. Knowledge of NSW legislation relating to development and building control and the National Construction Code
  5. Demonstrated ability to handle a high workload in an efficient and professional manner.
  6. Current Drivers Licence (Class C)
  7. General Construction Induction Card (White Card)
  8. Be willing to undergo a pre-employment medical prior to commencement
