The opportunity
We have a rare and exciting opportunity for a skilled Building Maintenance Officer to join our team, if you like variety in your work then this is the opportunity for you.
This role is responsible for undertaking maintenance tasks across a range of Council facilities such as painting, carpentry, fabrication, mending and general maintenance duties as needed. Council facilities includes but not limited to civic centres, depots, community halls, libraries, saleyards, swimming pools, parks, and recreational areas.
In this role you will:
- Assist with investigating and diagnosing problems and determining the best solutions for repair works and building projects, including providing estimates.
- Assist with planning and organising more complex repair or project works, including coordinating and supervising external tradespeople.
- Assist with annual building and asset inspections to determine condition, reporting any high-risk maintenance matters resulting from inspections.
- Operate a variety of tools, equipment, and machinery in the operational of duties, including but not limited to hand tools, electrical tools, forklifts, loaders, backhoes etc.
Essential key criteria to be addressed in applications.
- Trade certificate in a building, construction or related industry or minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar role.
- Previous experience using a range of tools/equipment/plant such as hand tools, electrical tools, medium rigid vehicles, forklifts, loaders, backhoes etc.
- Hold a current and valid driver's licence and General Construction Induction Certificate (White Card).
- Ability to assess and diagnose problems and determine appropriate fix or solution to resolve maintenance requests
- Demonstrated experience in the planning and organising building maintenance works, including determining estimates.
- Sound knowledge of safe work practices in a building environment.
- Effective time management and organisation skills.

The appointment will be in accordance with the Local Government (State) Award and Council’s policies and conditions of employment. The wages commence from $1,206.30 per week plus Award allowances to $1,506.60 per week plus Award allowances dependent upon skills and experience.
