Inner West Councilis hosting traineeships with GTOAbility Advocates Australiato recruit trainees within multiple areas of Council core business as part of the Inclusive Traineeship Program 2026.
This is a paid, 12-month traineeship, designed for people with disability who are looking to start or restart their career in a structured, supportive environment.

Applicant Criteria

• People with disability aged 18 years and over
• Individuals eligible for traineeships under relevant training and employment frameworks
• Jobseekers residing within or able to access Inner West Sydney locations

What is the Arborist traineeship

This is a 12 month supported program you will receive continuous assistance throughout the journey.
There will be on the job training and formal training and assessment completing a Certificate II in Arboriculture AHC20520
You will work towards achieving the competencies outlined in a training plan, complete assigned training and assessments, and maintain a training record whilst working in the role.

About the role

  • Provide arboriculture services to satisfy Council objectives and plan and organise work to ensure completion to appropriate standards. This will include but not be limited to planting, plant and tree maintenance, pruning, felling, transplanting, stump management and structural support, and the operation of equipment.
  • Plan and interpret instructions provided by your Supervisor to ensure tasks are completed effectively.
  • Functions will include tree planting, and maintenance including climbing, cutting, lopping and pruning to Australian and industry standards
  • Commit to Workplace Health, Safety, and Environmental Systems, adhering to council policies and guidelines.

Some of the required skills, experience and qualifications

  1. Willingness and interest in attaining a Certificate III in Arboriculture ( AHC20520)
  2. Minimum School Certificate or equivalent with good academic results
  3. General knowledge of arboriculture
  4. Commitment to undertake and complete all required tasks
  5. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  6. Ability to communicate effectively to the public, co-workers and management.
  7. Current C Class Driver’s Licence
