About the role

Do you enjoy working outdoors and acquiring new skills? This could be the perfect opportunity for you to earn while you learn! As an Apprentice with the City of Canada Bay Council, you’ll gain valuable on-the-job experience alongside structured training. You will develop a range of specialized skills and knowledge in Sports Turf Management.

As a Greenkeeper Apprentice, you will assist in the development and maintenance of sports facilities, parks, and gardens across the City of Canada Bay Council. Your responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, mowing, weeding, fertilizing, litter collection, spraying herbicides/pesticides, irrigation, watering, and operating equipment.

About the person 

To be successful in this job you will have:

  • Completion of Higher School Certificate
  • Ability to meet the basic manual handling and physical health requirements of the role, with a strong willingness and capability to work in an outdoor environment
  • Ability to work under supervision and collaborate effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to acquire a sound knowledge and understanding of workplace health and safety
  • A commitment to meeting training requirements and fostering personal development
  • WHS Construction Induction Card (White Card) or ability and willingness to obtain prior to commencement
  • Current NSW Class C Licence
  • A genuine interest and passion in undertaking a trade with a demonstrated interest in Greenkeeper work.

Desirable

  • Previous experience or interest in greenkeeping or grounds maintenance
  • Experience and exposure in the use of garden hand tools and small plant and equipment
  • Experience as part of a functioning team
  • Basic computer literacy, including experience / knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
