Walcha Council is a progressive rural Council in the New England area of New South Wales which is responsible for an area of approximately 6,260 square kilometers, and a road network of some 1,150 kilometres.
The township of Walcha is 1,067 metres above sea level and has a population of approximately 1500 and a local government area population of over 3,000 people.
The Council is a multi-purpose Local Government Authority responsible for roads, water supply, sewerage, health and building administration, environmental planning and development control, parks and sporting facilities, library, aerodrome, cemeteries, pre-school, bush fire brigades, garbage services, tourism, concrete batching, community services and home and community care.
The Council employs approximately 55 staff plus a number of contractors.
The Walcha Municipal Council was proclaimed on 12 March 1889.
