Careers at Council is your local government online careers hub. It’s run by the Local Government Associations and is packed with useful information showcasing what candidates can expect from a career in council. We showcase council employees who are already making a difference in their community, provide information about the breadth of work on offer and the suggested qualifications suitable for the many roles in local government. Candidates can browse current job opportunities via keyword and location searches or register for job alerts so they are the first to be informed of new career opportunities.

Once your request is received, we will be in touch within the next 2 business days to provide you with your login details and start the setup process. If you use an Applicant Tracking System (ATS), we will liaise with your ATS provider to connect your job feed.

Local Government NSW will also send you a Subscription Agreement and an invoice for your subscription.

If you use an Applicant Tracking System (ATS) provider, the feed is refreshed every 2 hours. Your job closing date will change once the feed has been refreshed. If you believe sufficient time has passed for the feed to be refreshed but the job is still displaying, please contact your ATS provider.

If you post jobs manually on the site, you can log in to your Council Portal on the Careers at Council website (see How do I post a job for reference) and edit the job’s Live Date and/or Closing Date from there.

If you would like your logo to appear next to your jobs, please send through a high-resolution logo to [email protected]

If you have sent through your logo and it is not appearing, this may be an issue with the website that needs to be rectified. Please log this with [email protected]

Careers at Council has partnered with SEEK Grad to highlight the job opportunities available in local government for students and recent graduates.

When posting a job that is suitable for graduates, students and interns with no prior work experience, ensure that the relevant Entry Level subcategory is selected in the dropdown menu. You can select one or more of the following subcategories: Graduate, Intern, Student, and Cadet.

Member councils with active or archived jobs have access to a customised digital reporting dashboard with detailed jobs data (up to 12 months old).

A unique Insights Dashboard is accessible via your Council Portal and your data is available throughout your membership, so you can monitor the performance of your jobs in real time.

When logged into your Council Portal, click Edit Profile then scroll down to the bottom to add in a council video link in the Video Sidebar URL field.

Selecting the most appropriate Career Area for your job post ensures it is categorised correctly, and in turn helps candidates find your job when they are searching. You can select more than one Career Area category. For entry-level roles, please select both the Entry Level category and the appropriate Career Area.
