ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Cumberland City Council proudly operates 13 Education and Care services across the community where our staff educate and care for children from birth to 13 years of age. Across our long day care, out of school hours care and family day care services, our staff are passionate about empowering today’s children to become tomorrow’s future by teaching children to be respectful, resilient and confident in an environment that is accepting, safe and inspiring.

Council's Education and Care team are looking for passionate, motivated and skilled leaders to join our team as an Early Childhood Teacher, across our Education and Care Services. The role is responsible for leading, planning, implementing and delivering the educational program to provide a warm and caring environment that enriches and enhances the children's lives.

The successful applicant will require:

  • Completion of a teaching degree in Early Childhood Education and Care as approved by the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA)
  • Current NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) Teacher Accreditation (Provisional or Proficient accreditation)
  • Completion of Child Protection Course CHCPRT025 – Identify and report children and young people at risk or a former valid unit (CHCPRT001)
  • Current HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an Educational Setting, including asthma and anaphylaxis
  • Current HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • HLTFSE001 Follow basic food safety practices (or willing to obtain)
  • Completion of the National Child Safety Training (Geccko)
  • Proven skills in leading inclusive, high-quality early childhood programs with a strong focus on:
  • Educational & Inclusion Leadership
    • Experienced in designing and guiding programs aligned with the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), ensuring each child’s learning and wellbeing is supported.
    • Skilled in supporting children with additional needs through tailored learning plans, inclusive environments, and collaborative engagement with families and support services.
  • Team Leadership & Role Modelling
    • Leads with professionalism and positivity, mentoring educators and fostering a collaborative team culture grounded in reflective practice and continuous improvement.
    • Acts as a role model for ethical conduct, integrity, and a strong commitment to children’s rights.
  • Communication & Operational Skills
    • Effective communicator with strong interpersonal, written, and organisational skills to navigate team dynamics, family engagement, and operational demands.
    • Digitally competent across platforms used for planning, documentation, compliance, and staff coordination.
  • Applies legislative and regulatory knowledge to uphold best practice, ensuring child safety, and maintaining service compliance with a solid understanding of:
    • Code of Conduct
    • Education and Care Services National
    • Child Protection legislation including mandatory reporting obligations and child safe standards
    • Work, Health, and Safety (WHS)

About this role:

  • 1x permanent full-time (Wenty Children's Centre) and 1x term contract (Pemulwuy Children's Centre - maternity leave cover) full-time position
  • Working 70 hours per fortnight, Monday to Friday on a rotating roster between 7:00am to 6:00pm.
  • Access to Council's 9 day fortnight Rostered Day Off (RDO) arrangement
  • Located at Council's Pemulwuy Children's Centre and Wenty Children's Centre however you may be required to work across any of Council’s work locations

Salary information:The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award.

  • Grade 10 of the Cumberland Salary Structure with a salary range of $1,696.50 to $1,950.97 per week (after the first full pay period after 01/07/26), plus 12% superannuation
  • The commencing salary will be negotiated, taking into consideration the successful applicant's qualifications, skills and experience related to the role
  • Cumberland City Council has successfully been approved for funding under the Commonwealth Government’s ‘Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) Worker Retention Payment Grant. This grant will provide an additional retention allowance to increase their wages in line with the federal Children’s Services Award 2010 and applies until 30 November 2026.

    The payment of the Worker Retention Payment allowance is not a condition of employment with Council and is subject to the Worker Retention Payment allowance being fully funded by the Commonwealth Government. Should this retention allowance cease to be paid by the Commonwealth Government, Council will also cease payment of the ECEC Worker Retention Payment Grant to staff.

What you'll need to have for this role:

  • The right to live and work in Australia
  • Be able to provide information for pre-employment checks required for the position, including attending a physical pre-employment medical examination as required
  • Participate in health monitoring as outlined in the risk assessment for this position and Council’s Health Monitoring Procedure, as required.
