About the Role

 Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer you will lead, direct and manage the Rates and Revenue Team to ensure proper discharge of all rating and revenue functions in accordance with Local Government Act, Local Government (General) Regulations, Code of Accounting Practice and Reporting and Council’s policies and procedures.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • End of Financial Year processing for Rates and Debtors
  • Annual Rate Levy processing and issue of data to the mailing house, including the ‘Where your Rates Go’ individualised insert
  • Processing the upload and reconciliation of the Valuer General’s Revaluation Land file, carried out every 3 years with the next revaluation due by end of 2025
  • Provide determination of how to process complex land valuation changes including changes included in the Valuer General Supplementary Lists.
  • Extracting the data for commencement of Debt Recovery
  • Providing Tech1 expertise and general guidance to the Rates and Revenue Team

About You 

We are seeking a dynamic leader with extensive experience working in rates including levying of annual rates and annual charges. You will have a thorough understanding of Rating Legislation in Local Government Act, Financial regulations, Australian Accounting Standards, Code of Accounting Practice and other relevant legislation that will guide you in performing the role.

In addition, you will have:

  • An appropriate degree qualification in a financial, accounting or related discipline, or an equivalent combination of knowledge and experience.
  • Extensive experience with managing debtors and debt recovery procedures and actions.
  • Ability to build strong relationships both internally and externally (Auditors, NSW Treasury, IPART, Valuer General etc), and utilise effective influencing, consultation, communication and negotiation skills to achieve business and organisational outcomes
  • Proven ability to lead, manage, motivate and develop a multi-disciplinary team.
  • High Level written communication skills including the ability to prepare complex briefings and reports for diverse audiences.
  • High levels of interpersonal skills, eye for detail and accuracy and PC literacy.

Your commencing annual salary will range from circa $127,116.40 to $165,251.31 + Superannuation + leaseback vehicle dependent on your experience and qualifications.
