About the Opportunity

Bathurst Regional Council is excited to offer this pivotal Senior Water & Sewer Engineer role, based in Bathurst, NSW.

In this critical leadership position, you will oversee water treatment, wastewater treatment, reticulation networks, trade waste management, and dam compliance projects. Acting as the right hand to the Manager Water & Waste, you’ll also step into Acting Manager responsibilities as needed, offering clear pathways for career progression.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Leading and mentoring a team of 4 direct reports to deliver high-performance outcomes
  • Overseeing the management of Bathurst’s water filtration and wastewater treatment plants
  • Managing reticulation networks and ensuring regulatory compliance for dam operations and trade waste
  • Driving large-scale capital works and infrastructure projects through effective project management
  • Implementing change management strategies and fostering continuous improvement within the team
  • Building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to enhance service delivery
  • Managing budgets effectively and ensuring operational efficiency

About You

To succeed in this role, you will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Process Engineering (or equivalent experience), along with hands-on experience in water/wastewater treatment and essential services. You are a confident and inspiring leader who thrives on driving high-impact projects and leading cultural and operational change.

Additionally, you will bring:

  • Expertise in water and wastewater treatment processes and infrastructure management
  • Proven leadership and people management skills
  • Strong project management capabilities in delivering complex infrastructure projects
  • Knowledge of NSW regulatory frameworks and compliance requirements
  • Excellent communication, reporting, and stakeholder engagement skills

Desirable:

  • Leadership potential with a desire for career advancement
  • Experience in change management and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Familiarity with SCADA systems and project management certifications (PRINCE2, PMP)
  • A current Driver’s Licence
