Council are seeking a motivated and reliable hardworker to join our team of Specialist Plant Operators in the Waste Management team. You will have a flexible approach to undertaking duties and be a team player.
The Specialist Operator Waste is responsible for:
- Expertly operate and carry out daily maintenance and servicing for purpose built plant and trucks
- Apply specialist skills in undertaking waste operation activities including:
o Resource Recovery
o Solid Waste Management
o Weighbridge/Customer Transaction activities
- As required, coordinate and control staff on the work site to ensure activities are undertaken in the appropriate sequence and to the required standard
- Assist in the training and/or instruction of staff in operation plant and equipment
TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL NEED
- Certificate III in Civil Construction, Waste Management, Plant or similar
- Heavy Rigid (HR) Driver Licence
- Plant Licence or extensive experience in operating the following:
- Dozer
- Track Loader
- Articulated Haul Truck
- Loader
- Garbage Compactor
- Excavator
- Hook Truck
- Skid Steer
- Telehandler
- Drum Roller
- WHS Construction Induction Card
- A passion for a clean and sustainable Tamworth region
Desired Attributes:
- HC Licence
- First Aid Certificate
- RMS Traffic Control (Yellow) - Apply Traffic Control
Plans - Asbestos Awareness
- Waste industry experience

Salary range: Grade 8 - $1,155.40 - $1,250.20 per week (plus 11.5% superannuation) and adverse working conditions allowance for a 38 hour work week. On top of the weekly salary range listed above, rostered hours include regular weekend penalty rates, with time and a half and double time pay. Opportunities for overtime work are also periodically available. Salary may be negotiated based on skills, experience and your value to our organisation.
NOTE: The Ordinary Hours for the Specialist Operator - Waste position are based on working an eight (8) day fortnight, on a rotating roster. This includes working one weekend a fortnight, with the alternate being a four (4) day long weekend off. Generally, the ordinary hours of work are rostered between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm.
Flexible working arrangements will be considered by mutual agreement and according to operational requirements.
Interviews for the role are scheduled for Wednesday, 28 May 2025.
