About the Role:
As a Financial Accountant, you will play a pivotal role in the preparation of Council’s General and Special Purpose Financial Reports and the ongoing management of our fixed asset register. You’ll work closely with internal stakeholders and external auditors, to reconcile balance sheets, manage asset records, and support the continuous improvement of financial systems and processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and submit financial statements and reports in compliance with statutory and legislative requirements
- Manage and maintain Council’s fixed asset register with a focus on accuracy and integrity
- Reconcile general ledger and balance sheet accounts
- Prepare and lodge taxation returns including BAS, PAYG, and FBT
- Assist in developing and enhancing financial systems, controls, and procedures
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, policies, and regulations
- Lead and support the Financial Accounting team, including supervision of the Assistant Financial Accountant
- Contribute to treasury functions, including cash flow management, banking operations, and loan portfolio oversight
What We’re Looking For:
We are seeking a Team Leader with exceptional interpersonal and communication skills who can inspire and motivate teams to reach business solutions. You will have substantial experience in operational and strategic financial management including demonstrated experience in preparation of annual financial reports.
In addition, you will have:
- An appropriate degree qualification in a financial, accounting or related discipline.
- Experience with financial accounting systems.
- Experience in the financial application of taxation law.
- Experience and understanding of asset management planning.
- Ability to oversee financial related projects.
- Background in developing and implementing business systems and processes.
- Strong teamwork and networking skills with an ability to work well in a political environment.
- Experience in preparing statutory financial reports and managing fixed assets
Your commencing annual salary will range from $108,604.71 to $141,186.12+ Superannuation, dependent on your experience and qualifications.
