The opportunity

If you have experience in Utilities – Water and Sewer treatment and maintenance operations or similar, then this is the opportunity for you. Federation Council is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our Utilities team at Corowa. An opportunity to supervise the water and sewerage reticulation team in the operation, maintenance, repair and construction of the water supply and sewerage mains and services to ensure cost effective and timely completion of works to required standards. This position will also carry out plumbing duties across the organisation including maintenance at treatment plants, pump stations, water and sewer mains, reservoirs and Council buildings and facilities. The position is an operational supervisor role, the incumbent is required to undertake regular operational plumbing duties as part of this role.

In this role you will:

  • Instruct and supervise staff and contractors work to achieve agreed levels and standards.
  • Work effectively in a team-based environment and provide effective customer service
  • Build relationships with key stakeholders, statutory authorities and community groups.
  • Promote a cohesive and inclusive work environment through effective leadership of the reticulation team, including effective task delegation, performance management, training and development.
  • Supervise operations, maintenance and repair programs for water mains and services, sewer mains and services and provide staff for the repair and upgrading of sewerage and water supply pump stations, reservoirs, treatment plants, reuse/disposal areas and associated equipment;
  • Provide labour support for your team and the organisation, as this position is a hands-on role;
  • Prepare reticulation team work plans and schedules and allocate duties to achieve work schedules in consultation with the Utilities Coordinator;
  • Arrange plant, equipment and materials as required to execute works;
  • Work to industry and trade standards to achieve best practice quality control;
  • Work to all requirements set by NSW Health and Environment Department regulators and State and Commonwealth legislation;
  • Assess, prioritise, delegate and complete Council Customer Requests that are allocated in a timely manner;
  • Ensure records are maintained in accordance with regulatory requirements, collect and arrange updating of Intramaps GIS, AssetFinda asset data, and Univerus, provide asset inspection data and documentation;
  • Review and sign all timesheets and leave applications for staff under your supervision, making sure they are accurate and the data is accurate;
  • Required to participate in the Federation Council on call and scheduled overtime roster, on a rotational basis, to provide after hours, weekend and public holiday response;

Essential key criteria to be addressed in applications

  • Hold a Contractor’s Trade qualification in Plumbing & Drainage, or equivalent, and demonstrated experience in reticulation;
  • Hold a current and valid Medium Rigid (MR) drivers’ licence, general construction induction card (white card) and Confined Spaces Entry accreditation;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of WHS practices and ability to actively encourage and promote a safe working environment;
  • Complete and comprehensive understanding of all Acts, Regulation, Codes and Construction Practices relating to water supply and sewerage maintenance and construction;
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time, set priorities as well as plan and organise work for both self and team to achieve set objectives in the most efficient way possible within the available resources and timeframe;
  • Demonstrated and proven strong communication skills with an ability to provide clear direction to staff, contractors and deal effectively with members of the public;
  • Demonstrated experience in supervising staff and contractors, allocating work and managing plant and materials.

The appointment will be in accordance with the Local Government (State) Award and Council’s policies and conditions of employment.  The salary is commencing at $1582.89 per week with progression up to $1790.98 per week dependent upon skills and experience.
