Support, develop and build capacity of the City’s youth.

About the positions

We now have three permanent part-time opportunities for Youth Activity Officers to support operations and programming at the City’s youth centres!

Reporting to the Senior Youth Worker, you will deliver recreational, learning and capacity building services and programs, and work with young people “at risk” including those from CaLD and Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander backgrounds, as well as youth experiencing AOD and mental health issues.

Position 1

45.6 hours per fortnight (0.6 FTE), Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays across Willetton and Cannington youth centres, including school visits, and other locations as required.

Position 2

26.6 hours per fortnight (0.35 FTE) Mondays and Tuesdays across Lynwood youth centre, including school visits, and other locations as required.

Position 3

26.6 hours per fortnight (0.35 FTE) Wednesdays and Thursdays across Willetton youth centre, including school visits, and other locations as required.

As mentioned, these roles also facilitate engagement with local schools, whilst providing support at other locations, and supporting the Youth Developments Officers to deliver programs and events.

A snapshot of your new role:

  • Engaging with young people to build rapport, encourage participation, and provide supervision, support and guidance, where appropriate
  • Planning and delivering a range of positive social and capacity building activities for young people
  • Identifying young people “at risk” with a view to offering information and where needed, referrals and advocacy
  • Teaching and modelling appropriate communication and life-management skills, promoting their personal development and well-being
  • Maintaining current knowledge and understanding of youth issues and associated support services, and being able to openly discuss these with young people where and when appropriate

How you will thrive in this role:

  • A qualification in Youth work, Community Development or similar
  • Demonstrated experience delivering structured and unstructured youth activities and programs
  • Demonstrated experience working with young people from diverse and complex backgrounds
  • Working knowledge of social, cultural and economic issues affecting young people
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to foster genuine, positive relationships
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and weeknight evenings including Fridays and occasional weekends, across different locations
  • Current ‘C’ class driver’s license with reliable vehicle in order to attend various work sites
  • Current WA Working with Children Check and First Aid certificate
  • National Police Clearance (within six months validity)
  • A passion for working with young people and youth development!
