About Us
Based in Darwin, LGANT is the peak body representing the local government sector in the NT. We represent 16 of the 17 local government councils. Membership consists of four municipals, three shires, nine regional councils, and two associate members. LGANT provides leadership, support, representation, and advocacy on behalf of our member councils for the benefit of their communities.

Key Responsibilities
The Advocacy and Policy Advisor will be responsible for providing high-level support and advice that enables LGANT to effectively influence the development of public policy.

The position will:

  • Be responsible for a range of subject matter relevant to local government and LGANT’s strategic priorities. These may include, but are not limited to: workforce development, climate change, telecommunications, and community services. These focus areas will change from time-to-time depending on demand and other priorities.
  • Undertake research and analysis of issues as they arise.
  • Draft and coordinate letters, submissions, briefings, Board papers, reports and grant applications.
  • Develop and maintain effective stakeholder relationships.
  • Represent LGANT at meetings, roundtables, conferences and workshops as required.
  • Manage projects to support and benefit member councils.
