The Role:

The Director Customer and Community develops strategies and services that build community capacity and assist us to provide exceptional customer service.  This role is responsible for Executive leadership and delivery of the City’s Community Services and Learning City Strategy, Safe Canning Strategy and Customer Experience Plan.

It has operational responsibility for Community Development & Libraries, Community Safety, Recreation & Leisure, Marketing & Communications (including stakeholder engagement and event management).    The Directorate is responsible for creating the spaces for communities to come together to thrive and to support lifelong learning opportunities.

If you were in this role, in the last 3 months you would have, amongst other things:

  • Proposed to Council a pilot of a Canning Open Art Studio program. This pilot provides access to private creative spaces for the rich artistic talent within Canning.
  • Lead the development, engagement, and adoption of the City’s CCTV Strategy.
  • Lead the development, engagement, and adoption of the City’s Reconciliation Strategy.
  • Invited community input into the Community Infrastructure Strategy (the CIS). The CIS considers the long-term requirements for community infrastructure, from Libraries and community centres, to sporting grounds and facilities, to youth centres, men’s sheds and scouts/guides facilities.
  • Lead the delivery of a summer event series bringing together families, friends and neighbours across the City of Canning to enjoy free community events for all ages.
  • Lead City wide engagement to understand what makes an area a great place to live, and to inform future City planning and projects.
