Your new role 

In the position of Civic Events and Protocol Officer, your role will be to plan, coordinate and implement the Council’s annual program of civic and corporate events and provide advice to other team members to assist with other events and functions. You will also be responsible to ensure the appropriate civic ceremonial and protocol requirements are adhered to in conducting civic events.

You will be working closely with the Mayor and Executive Team to deliver civic events and coordinate a range of events including citizenship ceremonies, Mayoral receptions, flag raising ceremonies, special openings and community award programs.

Further responsibilities will include:

  • Speak in a public forum, including acting as emcee at functions and events
  • Maintain and regularly update databases for attendees
  • Coordinate visits from community groups, schools, civic and business delegations
  • Coordinate resources required to deliver civic events
  • Manage and coordinate suppliers for relevant equipment, catering and staffing for events
  • Actively promote events and programs across council
  • Participate with and provide guidance to community groups, state and federal government departments, community organisations and Council to align events with strategic direction

What you’ll need to succeed

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Event Management or a related discipline, and/or extensive job-related experience in an appropriate field.
  • 2+ years of demonstrated working experience in the field of civic or corporate events and events in general
  • Demonstrated understanding of civic protocols and functions.
  • Understanding of cultural and political sensitivities as it applies to events and functions.
  • Current Class C Driver Licence.
  • Current First Aid Certificate, or the willingness to obtain a First Aid Certificate
  • High level of interpersonal skills, including both written and verbal communications.
  • Demonstrated willingness to work flexible or extended hours to ensure successful delivery of civic functions and events.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively and appropriately communicate with management, Councillors and community members, acting professionally at all times.
