About the Role
As a Weed Control Assistant, you will work in the Biosecurity team to implement the weed management strategies and undertake inspections, identification, treatments and mapping works for state and regional priority weeds as well as additional widespread weeds across the Maitland Local Government area. This role will involve, but not be limited to:
- Applying effective control treatments to weeds growing on public land
- Minimising the risks associated with chemical use
- Maintaining accurate records of chemical use
- Inspecting private and public land for the presence of weeds, recording accurate data and mapping infestations
- Operating plant, boats and equipment as required
- Maintaining and cleaning items of plant and equipment - including daily checks and ensuring that items of plant are regularly serviced
- Herbicide application, record keeping and weed management techniques including plant identification and use of weed control equipment.
- Assisting in the maintenance of Council ovals, parks and gardens as required
- Assisting in Council's public education program through field days and other public education opportunities

Benefits
This is a permanent full time role with a salary range of $61,829 up to $68,029 per year based on demonstrated competencies + 11.5% p.a. super. Work hours are currently 6:45am to 3:45pm.

About You
We are seeking a motivated candidate with a Certificate III in Conservation and Land Management or a related field, who possesses strong expertise in identifying priority weeds and utilizing appropriate pesticides and spray equipment. The ideal applicant will have excellent oral and written communication skills, enabling effective negotiation with stakeholders. Proficiency in basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and tablet mapping software, is essential. Additionally, candidates must hold a WorkCover Construction General Industry Induction, an AQF3 Chemical Use Certificate, and a current Class C Driver's Licence.
The following criteria is highly desirable
1. Working knowledge of the Biosecurity Act 2015 and other relevant legislation.
2. The following Traffic Control tickets:
- Apply Traffic Control Plans
- Select/Modify Traffic Control Plans
3. NSW Maritime General Boat Licence.
4. Chainsaw Operators Ticket.
