Our Community

Central Darling Shire is embarking on a culture of change that enables us to deliver our services to our community.  We may be small in workforce size, however we are large in geographical size.

Being the largest Shire in NSW and the smallest population, our region covers an area about the size of the main island of Tasmania and yet has a population of less than 2,000 people. The Shire is extremely diverse with four main communities – Wilcannia, Menindee, Ivanhoe and White Cliffs.

The Opportunity

This newly created position will see the successful candidate responsible for conducting plumbing and drainage activities, both routine and unscheduled across the Shire.  In addition, the position will responsible for ensuring all Council water and waste water mains, reticulation and associated infrastructure are maintained or replaced to avoid disruption of service to the residents of Central Darling Shire.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will bring with you:

  • The ability to supervise both day labour and contract works, including the ability to travel throughout the Shire.
  • Hold current class C driver’s licence.
  • A high level of written and oral communication skills and the ability to work effectively and in harmony with other people.
  • Effective time management and problem skills, including the ability to make accurate, on the spot decisions
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision and perform well within the immediate work team and across Council as a whole.
  • Excellent literacy, numeracy, verbal and negotiation skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of plumbing and drainage requirements, standards and associated legislation, including as it relates to water and sewerage reticulation systems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Work Health and Safety practices and its application in the workplace.
  • Minimum Certificate III in Plumbing (Trade Qualification) or 5 years experience in a similar role.
  • Confined Spaces Certification
  • “General Induction for Construction Work in NSW” (white card).

Salary  -  Central Darling Shire Grade 8 (Entry Level) - $2,618.60 per fortnight (full-time) plus superannuation.  Subsidised housing and a council supplied vehicle are available with this position.
