Fixed term contract - maximum 5 Years

Yarra City Council is seeking a dynamic, innovative and collaborative leader to join as Manager, City Strategy in the Planning and Place Making Division. This role will lead a number of units being Strategic Planning, Urban Design and Place Making, Open Space Planning and Design and Economic Development.

A vital part of the Division, this management position will report directly to the Director, Planning and Place Making. The incumbent will pursue branch, division and corporate goals through effective team-work across the organisation, and will develop sound working relationships with a range of internal and external parties.

A significant focus over the next few years will be driving toward outcomes of planning scheme amendments, to better ensure development that reflects both good urban design and is also respectful of heritage requirements. Other key objectives are to provide a focus on urban design, place management, economic development and the design of new open spaces. 

The right candidate for this senior leadership position will:

  • have extensive urban planning experience and a sound understanding of local government and its complexities
  • have proven leadership and management skills to deliver on programs in a timely manner
  • strong political acumen and sound decision making ability
  • advanced conceptual and analytical problem solving skills
  • proven ability to present well in public forums and excellent writing skills
  • have experience managing multiple programs in previous roles, and
  • the ability to influence and achieve outcomes
