Bourke Shire is located in North Western NSW and covers an area of 43,000 square kilometers with a population of approximately 2,600 people. The historically renowned regional service town of Bourke is located on the banks of the Darling River on the intersection of three significant interstate transport routes- Kidman Way, Mitchell Highway and Kamilaroi Highway. The Shire's main industries include irrigated cotton,beef cattle, sheep and wool, feral goat harvesting and tourism.

Council is seeking a self-motivated individual with a demonstrated record of leadership, an understanding of strategic planning, team building skills and supportive of the issues important to regional and remote communities. Reporting to the Mayor and accountable to the Council, the position will be responsible for a multi-disciplinary staff of some 90 people with an annual budget of over $77 million. Challenges in the role include community leadership, developing and sustaining growth in a remote area, progressing a burgeoning tourism sector, implementing significant infrastructure projects, progressing asset management strategies, financial management, long term planning and providing a range of community support services.

Council is offering a 5-year performance-based contract and will negotiate an attractive remuneration package inclusive of superannuation, private vehicle use and subsidised housing.

Demonstrated management experience and achievement at a senior level is essential. Relevant tertiary qualifications will be well regarded.
