Wagga Wagga is the economic hub and regional capital of southern NSW. The city hosts a large, growing, modern and diverse economy serving not only the 68,000 residents, but also the wider regional catchment of 190,000 people. The City is ideally located midway between Sydney and Melbourne and is well connected by air, rail and road network.  Wagga Wagga is an important agricultural, industrial, business, military and transport hub and one of the fastest growing inland cities in Australia.

The NSW Government has identified Wagga Wagga in the Riverina as the State’s second Special Activation Precinct. What this means is that Wagga Wagga will become the easiest place in Australia to either establish or expand an industrial enterprise.

It is an exciting time to join the team at Wagga Wagga City Council with more than $54 million in major capital works projects underway or commencing in the 2020/2021 financial year.

As a result of the continued growth of the City and Region, Council is currently seeking applications from experienced and qualified individuals for two key senior leadership roles, which will influence the future of Wagga Wagga and the Region.

Director Regional Activation

This is a key, senior leadership role responsible for setting the strategic direction for, and overseeing the operations of, the Regional Activation Directorate. This will deliver prosperity to this area of NSW for generations to come. We need the right person who can use this opportunity to change the face of the Riverina. We need a pioneer. An entrepreneur. Someone who has combined astute commercial acumen with integrity. This is a role that cries out to a person who has reached the stage in their career when they want to set the direction for the next generation.

Carve yourself out a personal triumph that will be recorded in the history of NSW. Major responsibilities of this role include:

  • Delivering the Wagga Wagga Special Activation Precinct.
  • Leading a team of strategic planning professionals to establish the planning framework for residential growth, central business district (CBD) living and an integrated university / residential precinct
  • Working closely with State and private key stakeholders together with universities and training organisations to progress the Riverina Health and Knowledge Precinct.

Key to your success in this role will be your ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders coupled with your ability to create a vision for, and to provide positive leadership to your team. You will hold tertiary qualifications in Economics, Business Administration and/or Marketing and will bring to the role a minimum of five years demonstrated experience within a senior leadership role providing high-level management of the key functional areas of this role. You will also possess outstanding communication skills and highly developed budget and project management skills.
