The Opportunity
As a Building Surveyor Cadet at the City of Perth, you will engage in tertiary structured study while working under the general direction of the City’s Building Approvals team. This role is designed to help you develop the skills and knowledge required to qualify as a Building Surveyor. Your activities will primarily focus on inspecting, monitoring, and auditing existing building stock for compliance with the City’s policies, procedures, and responsibilities under the Building Act 2011.
Reporting to the Principal Building Surveyor within our Development Approvals team, your responsibilities would primarily include:
- Assist with the effective operation of the building surveyor team, establishment of work programs, formulation of policy and implementation of procedures;
- Prepare accurate and compliant certificates and permits that meet the requirements of the Building Act 2011, other relevant statues, Local Laws and City of Perth policies, guidelines and procedures;
- Assist the Development Approvals Unit in its responsibility for the risk management of building compliance by ensuring that buildings in its municipality are safe to occupy and do not present an unacceptable risk to the public; and
- Undertake all tasks in the full understanding of own obligations to take reasonable care to ensure personal safety and health at work and that of other persons in the workplace.

- Demonstrated willingness and aptitude to obtain building surveying knowledge and practically apply it;
- Strong research, analytical and problem-solving skills;
- Ability to effectively plan, organise and manage own time to achieve outcomes within set timeframes despite conflicting priorities; and
- Sound written and oral communication skills.

Eligibility
To be eligible to work for us, you will need to demonstrate:
- A right to work in Australia (e.g. a birth certificate, current passport or current visa);
- Construction Induction Card (White / Blue Card), or ability to obtain;
- A current ‘C’ class Australian drivers licence; and
- A satisfactory National Police Clearance (dated within 3 months).
